Model. Actor. Influencer. Digital creator. Brand ambassador. These are terms we hear daily, but Lindsay Solmer literally does it all! Having moved to NYC from Canada at 17 years old to pursue her dream of being in the entertainment industry, she’s remained laser-focused and has continued not only to evolve but excel in every field in which she finds herself. I’m constantly inspired by her incredibly creative Reels on Instagram and absolutely flawless style. Not only is she chic AF, but also one of the nicest people you’ll ever be lucky enough to meet. I had a few questions that I wanted to ask the queen of #InstaTips herself, so sit back, relax and get to know Lindsay, a true creator in every way:
- When did you decide that you wanted to start blogging and creating content?
I started blogging in 2017. I was always active on social media, loved fashion, and was comfortable in front of the camera from my acting and modeling jobs, but I had zero experience in the blogging world. I was super lucky to have Madeline Yanni and Michelle Madonna who really helped me get started! I did my first photoshoot with them in Central Park wearing all Cynthia Rowley looks. I had so much fun on that shoot and knew in that moment, that was just the beginning and I was sucked into the influencer world.
- What is your favorite aspect of creating content? (Photo shoots, makeup, creative aspects, BTS etc)
My favorite part of being a content creator is definitely the photoshoots and also the editing and curating my feed!
It is really insane for me to think of all the different lifetimes I have had since moving here and I wouldn’t change it to be any other way.
- You wear a LOT of hats! You’re an actor, a model, a blogger, and even work for Margaret Josephs from RHONJ—how do you balance it all? And did you ever imagine that your career and turns you’ve taken would lead you to where you are?
Honestly I have NO IDEA how I juggle it all. I think that may be the key though. I don’t over think it. I just do it. I have always been a very go with the flow person and I think that helps too! My schedule is different every week. Castings and auditions pop up last minute all the time, so if I over plan, it gets too complicated.
Since I was young I always knew I wanted to be in the entertainment industry, and I knew I would live in NYC one day. So I am not really surprised where I am now, as I dreamed it for years…. And if you know me, I’m all about manifestation. What I never did see, is me becoming an influencer and I definitely didn’t think I’d be working for one of the RHONJ.
It really is so crazy the twists and turns my life has taken me on since moving to NYC at the age of 17. Over the 10 years here I have gone to acting school, then got my Bachelors at Hunter College. I have gone through different friend groups and relationships. I worked selling Broadway tickets in Times Square and now working with Margaret from Real Housewives of New Jersey. I started my blog and became an influencer. I got signed with my talent agencies and have modeled and worked with incredible brands that I’ve had on my vision board for years! It is really insane for me to think of all the different lifetimes I have had since moving here and I wouldn’t change it to be any other way.
- I always think how lucky we are to live in a time with the technology we have, and being able to kind of play on our phones and come up with fun edits, designs, and content in general. Do you think that digital content creation is going anywhere any time soon, or do you think it’s only going to grow from here?
I think it will grow from here! Technology is always changing/advancing so the way we create may shift but I don’t see it going anywhere. I will admit… When Covid hit a year ago and TikTok became big, I started to think TikTok was going to take over and Instagram would fade. But then Instagram came out with Reels! So I think these social media apps will always be evolving to keep us hooked!
- You’re constantly creating some of the most inspiring and fun content on Instagram. Where do you draw inspiration from and how do you keep coming up with these amazing ideas?
Firstly, thank you so much! I have been having so much fun with sharing my “how-to” videos and #instatips on Instagram Reels. I feel like it has given me a new space to share a side of me that a lot of people didn’t know. The creative, crafty side of Lindsay! I have always been tech-savvy and had an eye for design. I’m that friend people send their photos to, to edit, or that girl who stays up all night creating collages on her computer. I also love downloading new editing apps and testing out their features. So when I think about it, it really wasn’t a crazy transition for me to start creating these Reels. I was already doing all of these tips and tricks in my daily life but now I’m sharing them with my audience.
- Where/from whom do you find your style inspiration?
I get a ton of my style inspiration from Pinterest! I am always scrolling on it late night getting inspo for my upcoming photoshoots! I also get a lot of style inspiration from Delaney Childs, Vitaliia & of course style icon Hailey Bieber.
- What is your dream job—and if it’s different, your dream campaign to work on?
My dream is to be a full time working actor! When I think of the kind acting career I want I think of Jennifer Aniston, Margot Robbie, and Emma Stone. The ULTIMATE would to be on an episodic show like FRIENDS!
I also have a bizarre obsession with Live with Kelly & Ryan, and want to be the next Kelly Ripa. So maybe I’m a working actor on a tv show for a few years, do a couple movies, and then I have my own morning talk show…. lol what can I say, I am a big dreamer.
- Since becoming such a well-known creator, and with all the jobs you do and have done—is it even possible to pick a favorite moment? Like a moment that made you think “OMG…. how is this my life?!”
I would say my “OMG” moment was definitely when I started to go viral on Reels this past winter. I finally felt recognized as a creator and that all my hard work was beginning to pay off.
I’m that friend people send their photos to, to edit, or that girl who stays up all night creating collages on her computer.
- Do you have an all-time favorite look that you’ve shot? On the flip side, any outfits that you look back and say “what was I thinking?!”
Oooh thats a hard question! I don’t know if I have an all time favorite look but I have my favorite photos that I’ve taken with my photographer Madison. I actually just shot at a studio here in the city and the photos came out amazing! I have already started sharing a few but there are so may more to come that I’m super proud of! So stay tuned!
OMG YES! I was looking back at some of my old photos the other day from 2017 when I started blogging! Some of them are so cringe!!
- Any tips or advice for aspiring content creators? Those looking to gain a following or find themselves at a loss creatively?
If you are looking to grow a following, you must be uploading Reels ASAP! That is exactly how I grew from 17k to now over 150k in a few months! If you can post a Reel every single day, that has a set niche, has value, and you’re consistent, I promise after a few weeks you will see your page grow.
Lastly, my biggest advice to anyone who is an aspiring influencer is don’t worry about what other people think. If it makes you happy, do it. If an outfit makes you feel confident, post it. Don’t over think it and just have fun!
I hope you’ve enjoyed my chat with Lindsay! You can find her on Instagram, her fashion blog, her professional website, and TikTok!
